Mikheil Meskhi Stadium

Located in the Vake district of Tbilisi, the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium is one of Georgia’s most important sports venues, second in prominence only to the Dinamo Arena. Named after one of Georgia’s most beloved football legends, the stadium holds a special place in the country’s athletic and cultural life.
Originally opened in 1952 as the Lokomotivi Stadium, it served for decades as a key venue for local clubs and athletic events. Following extensive renovations in the early 2000s, the stadium was modernized to meet international standards. It was at that time renamed in honor of Mikheil Meskhi, the iconic Georgian winger often referred to as the “Georgian Garrincha” for his dazzling dribbling skills and unforgettable performances with Dinamo Tbilisi and the Soviet national team.
Today, the stadium has a seating capacity of around 27,000 and features a natural grass surface, modern facilities, and an intimate atmosphere that makes it especially well-suited for football matches and rugby games. It frequently serves as an alternative home ground for the Georgian national football and rugby teams, and it is a favored venue for youth competitions, club fixtures, and international friendlies.
Surrounded by green spaces and located near Tbilisi’s central neighborhoods, Mikheil Meskhi Stadium is not just a functional sports arena, it is a tribute to one of Georgia’s football greats and a gathering place for fans who celebrate the country’s deep passion for sport.
